Collection: Jian Zhan
Jian Zhan - Handmade teacup from China
Jian Zhan (Jianzhan) or Jian Ware is a type of Chinese handmade ceramics, recognised by the dark iron body and famous for its uniqueness and irresistible glazing patterns. Jian Zhan crafting technique is similar to Tenmoku teaware in Japan.
Jian Zhan became prevalent during the Song Dynasty (960-1279), and its spotlight faded with the change of rulers and tea-drinking habits. The crafting technique was retrieved in 1979, after 700 years of no production at all, and was registered as one of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage of China in 2011.
As its shape and high iron content in the clay and glaze, Jian Zhan is recommended as the best ware to enjoy the flavour of tea and has been loved by tea-lovers all over the world. Please read our blog to find out more about Jian Zhan.
Each piece of Jian Zhan that China Crafts Collection list is carefully selected and unique.Â
