The artist Wenjun Li is a contemporary artist, a council member of the Artists Association of Guangxi Province. Her works are collected in museums in China and overseas.
The objects of this set are plum blossom, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemum. These four flowers have always been a popular topic in traditional Chinese art, as they represent the qualities of a virtuous person or a gentleman.
Plum blossoms - self-esteem, steadfast and persevering in difficult situations.
Orchid - elegance and free from vulgarity.
Bamboo - firm, persistent and refuse to bend.
Chrysanthemum - indifferent to fame or fortune.
Praising these four flowers are also one of the favourite topics on the tip of Chinese poets' writing brushes. There is one calligraphed poem dedicated to each flower in this set of work.
